"Sapphire Moonlight, Tequila Sunrise"

These lyrics from 'Señorita' inspired me to make this drawing. Other than being a popular song, one of the things that made me catch this song is its deeply descriptive lyrics. Especially these three lines:

"Sapphire Moonlight
We danced for Hours in the Sand
Tequila Sunrise"

Song lyrics are quite like poetry, just with more rhythm, beat and music accompaniment. These lyrics from the song, if seen from a poetic perspective, is infused with metaphors, visual and tactile imagery, and if you go deeper into the lyrics and analyse it, there are powerful emotions waiting to be revealed.

If you look at the music video, this song is all about temporary or empty love, something that the waitress wants so much more out of. The "Tequila" shows the influence of alcohol, giving rise to a form of love that is clearly made in darkness. Although the lines "Sapphire Moonlight" provides a deeply romantic setting of a navy blue night sky trickling with the light of the moon, a symbol of love , it's evidently only a relationship made in the darkness. This is a very blatant form of blind love. Despite this, she hopes and yearns for something more than just a few "Hours". The "Sunrise" and "Moonlight" is a ray of hope that she might be able to get more, perhaps something like true love.

In response to this, I have built a city of sapphire stones. Although blind love runs in the backdrop of the city, darkness pouring out of the moon of the wine glass, the city still glows with warmth and hope. Time, which takes the role of the Sun, showers the city with guidance and allows it time to grow. Although the city might have built its first building with a few drops of alcohol, it may be able to grow with something more positive and productive.

  1. Tequila Sunrise is a cocktail drink. Is there a Sapphire Moonlight drink too?
