Growth and Maturity

Perfumes have always been a symbol of maturity, elegance, and personal growth for me. It's a mark that a little girl has grown up and knows how much of perfume to put so that she stands out of the crowd but does not overdo her presence. It's a delicate balance between her making her mark upon the world and exerting domination.

When I reached a certain age, almost every once in a while when my father came back from the US form a business trip, he would bring me a bottle of perfume. Before, I had only used my mother's, and  when my father gave me one, it made me feel like he believed I was responsible enough to have one of my own.

This line of perfumes is a metaphorical representation of a little girl growing into a "little lady" and then into a mature woman. The first two bottles are tiny, with kiddish designs, almost as if they were bought from a toy store for a little girl who wanted to feel more grown up. The next one, wrapped around in ribbons and bows, more likely made out of glass, seem to come from a more authentic store (perhaps one that actually specialises in perfumes). Yet, it's overdose of decorations represent the little lack of subtlety and want to impress. The fourth perfume bottle has flowers and leaves, elegant decorations that show a gradual transition into simple, elegant style. Finally, the last bottle with a "scarf" and delicate "pendant" around its neck, symbolises a grown woman who has achieved the balance of elegance and maturity. Although this bottle is more stylish than the first two, it has a more toned down design compared to the third and fourth, almost as if it understands that there are much bigger, important things in life.
